Tomakio Gause for District Court Judge
It is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for Guilford County District Court Judge! As a child growing up with very humble beginnings in eastern North Carolina, I dreamed of being a Judge one day. Since that time, I have worked to prepare myself to make this dream a reality.
I am a graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. I have been practicing law for over 14 years. Nine-plus of those years have been as a solo practitioner. In my tenure as an attorney, I have appeared in every courtroom in which a district court judge presides. My practice areas are family law (child support, divorce and child custody), small claims, misdemeanor criminal, juvenile, domestic violence matters, and guardianship. As a result of my dedication in the area of family law, since 2009 I have periodically been contracted by Guilford County Attorney’s Office to handle child support matters.
During my formative years, I was the recipient of the generosity and compassion of others. As a result, I have sought to leave the same impact in my community as others have left on mine. I have provided services for Legal Aid and pro bono services within my own practice, as well as contribute to the following organizations:
Guilford County Black Lawyers Association Member
Former Vice-President of Guilford County Black Lawyers Association
Proud Donor for United Way
Professional Mentor for recently barred attorneys
Teacher for Children’s Church
Former Vice-President of Murphey Parent Teacher Association
Volunteer and donor to Guilford County Schools
My family provides me with unwavering support. I am fortunate to have been married to my husband, Marcus Gause, for over 15 years. He currently, serves as the proud Principal of Andrews High School in High Point, N.C. and is also the Associate Minister at our church. We have a 13-year daughter (Alex) and 11-year old son (Aiden) who inspire us daily.
It is my hope that the work I have done speaks to who I am as a person, and, also the Judge I hope to be. My experience and work ethic coupled with my compassion and love for all people have been with me through my life’s journey. These are the same characteristics that the citizens of Guilford County need and deserve in a District Court Judge. Thank you for considering me on March 3, 2020, for your next Guilford County District Court Judge!
